MEET STEVIE - Our Featured Dog This Week

THIS DOG NEEDS TO BE ADOPTED! HE IS IN A KILL SHELTER IN MASSACHUSETTS! Stevie is our featured dog this week. This beautiful American Pit Bull Terrier is a sweetheart. He is about 8 months old and DOES NOT want to grow up in the pound! He's a beautiful, affectionate dog.
Stevie has a great temperment and is very lovable. He is also friendly and just wants his own home! Do you have room in your home and your heart for this adorable little boy? He has been at the pound since 04/18/02 and his days are numbered! Please come in and take him for a walk and see if you have the right Forever Home for him! His ID# is 9586. Eight million people reside in America's biggest metropolis, New York City. Within this mosaic, however, is a large population in need of protection that is often overlooked; the city's five million animals. Unlike their human counterparts, these animals are protected by a small group of law enforcement officials who, until now, have done their important work in obscurity.
Animal Precinct, narrated by Michael Madsen, will chronicle the drama, emotion, triumph and tragedy of the work of the agents of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal's (ASPCA) Humane Law Enforcement Department (HLE), the only law enforcement group in New York City solely devoted to investigating crimes against New York's animal population.
These investigators all possess a passion to prevent animal cruelty and punish perpetrators that serves as the driving force behind their work.
Their cases might include the infiltration and destruction of dog fighting rings, the closing down of cockfighting facilities, and arresting perpetrators who are starving and abusing their animals. To do their jobs effectively, the agents must combine their investigative skills, compassion, tact and street smarts while dealing with people who are often uncooperative, unsympathetic and, at times, violent. NATIONAL POISON PREVENTION For Animals
Did you know that there are substances in your home that are poisonous to your pet? All of these products are easily found in stores. In fact, pet owners buy, use--and eat--them regularly.
"Most pet owners simply do not know that small amounts of chocolate, onions, macadamia nuts and bread dough can be fatal if ingested by a dog," says Dr. Steven Hansen, Senior Vice President, ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC). And many cats are poisoned in the spring from plants, including daffodils and lilies.
For a comprehensive rundown of potentially dangerous substances, visit the APCC online. You may be surprised to find something that many humans can't do without on that list--that morning pick-me-up cup of tea or coffee. Both contain caffeine, a stimulant that, if ingested, can cause increased heart rate in pets, hyperactivity, seizures and tremors.
Both coffee beans and caffeinated teas can also be harmful to your pet if enough are ingested. If you suspect that your pet has eaten coffee grinds or another product containing caffeine--or has gotten into any other potentially dangerous substance--call your veterinarian or the APCC's emergency hotline at 1-888-4-ANI-HELP for telephone assistance 24/7.
